AR Architectural Model

GM Energy, North America Roadshow 2023

How do you communicate massive infrastructural stories whilst staying earnest and approachable?

These series of artisan crafted wooden architectural models were bought to life with augmented reality to tell city-sized stories to an audience that has grown weary of the blockbuster approach.

Each model was designed to highlight a different segment of industry or society GM Energy stands to improve through mass electrification, including supporting the adoption of electric vehicles, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, creating energy independence from blackouts and minimising the stress on a energy grid that is no longer fit for purpose.

Along with moving vehicles, interactive 3D models and layered animations, we were able to tell environmental stories, transporting the scene to the warmly lit evening or plunging the model into a fierce thunderstorm.

Building on techniques we developed back in  2019   – the tracking and accuracy we’re achieving in AR has really come to maturity to give us highly reliable digital overlays over these physical scenes that create a seamless but tangible experience that catches the eye and stands out in a sea of screens and LED walls.
